Very Berry Coulis

Aahh…the bountiful months of summer that bring the gift of fresh fruits and vegetables. I must admit I enjoy nature’s treats straight from the garden as much or more than chocolate. My husband and I like to grow some of our own produce. What we lack in terms of adequate space and sunshine to grow more, we make up for with locally grown produce from our CSA (see Summer Tomatoes) and trips to pick-your-own fruit  farms.

My favorite fruits are berries. I’m pleased to say I learned of a new way to enjoy a mixture of berries from a recipe that seems to have its origins in France. Very Berry Coulis(pronounced koo-LEE) is a French name for a thick sauce made with fruits or vegetables.

The fruit sauces might make a great topping for waffles, pancakes (especially a German pancake), or french toast.  Or it might be layered with angelfood cake for a lower calorie and very nutritious dessert! The possibilities are endless. To read more:
